आज विवश बहती हुई। …

तत्पर आत्मजा

अपने स्वरुप को मिटा

पिता को प्रचुर भूमि देने की चाह में

बहने चली। ….

अगस्त्य पत्नी

गंगा को भी करती पवित्र

आज कितनों के पाप धो पाएगी ?

आक्रोश से दूषित हुए मन

कावेरी की शीतलता से

क्या ठन्डे हो पाएंगे ?

नदी बहती जाए

ढूंढती कुछ उत्तर…..

    • When Vishnu takes the form of Mohini to enchant the demons away from amrit, Lopamudra helps him. She later is given the form of Kaveri, in which role she remains as a dutiful daughter to her father Kavera. She prays to become a river so that she can make fertile the barren lands of her father. Rishi Agastya admires the daughter’s filial devotion and marries her. It is said that she marries him on the condition that he will never leave her alone. But one day, when Agastya fails to keep his promise, she flows down the hills in the form of a river.

      • Thanks so much Sunaina for the detailed story on the river kaveri and the link to Lopamudra..I find this beautiful name common among the Bengalis and was curious whether it had any other connotations.

  7. सुनैना जी, एक तरफ हम कहते है की भारत मेरा देश है। सभी भारतीय मेरे भाई बहन है। फिर एक ही देश के लोग पानी के बटवारे को लेकर ऐसे कैसे झगड़ सकते है? समझ में नहीं आता है। आपने इस समस्या का बहुत खूबसूरती से वर्णन किया है की खुद कावेरी को कैसे लग रहा होगा?

  11. First of all, calling the rivers holy and throwing garbage in it needs to be stopped. I remeber a dailouge from the movie Ranjhana, “Duniya ki ganga me, kisi dargah ke kisi dhage me wo taakat nahi he ki wo insan ko insan ka katal maaf karde”. There are many rivers that goes from one country to another, and we have to share the water with them. I had once read somewhere, the next world war will be for water.

    • Yes Manisha….you are right…..No sins can be washed away ever….I cannot understand the logic behind all this…..and I tried to bring that up as I ended my poem…..I have read too that water would be the cause of the next water….and given the current scenario, it might be true.

  13. सही अर्थों में यही तो हमारे बचपन के साथी हैं । इसी विवाद को देखते, सुनते, पढते हुए हम बडे हुए हैं । 2 पीढियाँ गुजर गईं और मुद्दा वहीं का वहीं है । इसे कहते हैं अजर अमर तत्व ।
